The Way It Spins written by Irin Evers
On a call in Flatbush, Brooklyn, an EMT is surprised to hear “EMT lingo” from Russ Johnson, 18, a thug-looking kid from this bad neighborhood. Though his friends often remind him of his criminal past and his environment tries to keep him down, Russ struggles to become an EMT, get out of his neighborhood and turn his life around.
One night, in a brief lapse of judgment, Russ screws around while driving his best friend and crashes the car. His friend has irreversible brain damage. Guilt and anger consume Russ as he goes into a downward spiral, loses his grip on himself and slips back into his old ways. He can’t bear to visit his friend in the hospital. His ride-alongs with EMTs are the only things keeping him afloat.
But when Russ fails the EMT practical test, he agrees to help out a few friends with a robbery. When his new world and old world collide in one huge moment, which way will his life spin?
